For Ali Salim Mohammed, a rising star nurtured by the Tusk Foundation, this truth has been the heartbeat of his journey. From humble beginnings on the streets of Madina, Salim’s story is one of hard work, resilience, and unshakable determination.
Salim’s basketball journey began in his local community, where raw passion fueled his dreams. With support from the Tusk Foundation, he quickly rose through the ranks, competing in local and international events that shaped his growth as both a player and a leader. He made his mark at the AYL Championship, before going on to shine at the Pops 100 Camp, where he was named Most Improved Player. Within that same time, he represented Ghana at the Togo U16 Championship, laying the foundation for even bigger moments to come.
He captained Ghana’s U16 National Team, a role that showcased his leadership and maturity beyond his years, while also celebrating success as an Accra League Division 2 champion. His development continued with exposure at the FIBA Regional Camps in Mali, and was selected for the Ghana U18 National Team as well as the prestigious Basketball Without Borders program in South Africa, where he stood shoulder to shoulder with some of the best young players on the continent.
Alongside his success on the court, Salim’s dedication to education was recognized when he received the Tusk Awards eCampus Best Student Athlete, underscoring his commitment to excellence both in sports and academics.
Now, Salim has earned a life-changing opportunity to continue his education and basketball career at Springdale Prep School in Maryland, USA. This milestone is a testament not only to his talent but also to his perseverance through every obstacle, and it comes in the same time he was honored as the Tusk Awards 2025 MVP, a recognition of his exceptional impact as a player and leader.
